While most people can figure out how to install normal home theater speakers or Klipsch, Yahama and Polk in wall speakers, in wall and in ceiling speakers take a little more work. Before you decide to install on your own (and risk bringing down a wall or the ceiling), you should make sure you’re comfortable using a drywall knife, have had experience working with drywall, and have at least some knowledge of basic electrical systems.

If your speakers are going to placed in a humid or moist place, you’ll want to make sure you look into self-contained and waterproof speakers, even if they’re in the walls or ceiling. Also, making sure you use the proper type of in wall wire is very important.

If anything in the above process seems beyond your abilities, before you start cutting holes into your wall or ceiling, you may want to see if you have a friend or relative who could help or look into hiring a professional to install. If you’re going for a better look, it’s worth it to spend a little extra money to get it installed right so that it looks good.
